Nneamaka (fondly called Amaka) completed her Bachelors Degree in Theatre Arts from Nandi Azikiwe University Asia, Anambra State, Nigeria. She was born and raised in Lagos Nigeria, but currently resides in The United States of America. Amaka has interned with the Smithsonian National Museum of African Arts in Washington D.C. in 2016, and has worked closely with the council for Arts and Culture in Akwa Ibom state Nigeria, where she conducted a research on dance and identity construction and representation in a multi-ethnic state as part of her Choreomundus (International Master in Dance Knowledge, Practice and Heritage) thesis. She currently has two publications; “Hegemony and the Institutionalization of Dance in Nigeria” and “Dance and Museology : Complexities and Potential Relevance in the Nigerian context”. Amaka is interested in identity construction and transmission of culture and its preservation within the diaspora community. She is presently collaborating with the Council of Igbo States in Americas (CISA) to research on the annual Igbo World Festival of Arts and Culture held in Staunton Virginia. The focus is on transmission and reconstruction of ethnic identity in the diaspora through various art forms including dance. Amaka also performs with the MalcomX drummers and dancers in Washington DC and is a dancer/singer with the Toby Foyeh orchestra Africa.
