Sam is presently in her second year of the Choreomundus Master programme. Having completed fieldwork research on the island of Hawai’i, her current research is focused on dance as cultural identity, alongside issues pertaining to the Presentation of Self within the hula community. She has an undergraduate degree in Archaeology from La Trobe University, Australia, with a major in Latin American Studies, specialising in the Ancient Maya civilization. A bronze, silver and gold medallist in Salsa and Argentine tango, she also performs burlesque and jazz / cabaret.
Her research interests include: the representation of dance within the tangible archaeological record, the safeguarding of tangible and intangible cultural heritage, the role of dance within the Body Positivity movement, and colonialism. |
