Performing artist, María (born in Bolivia) was formed in ballet, jazz, traditional dances and contemporary dance, with a BA in theatre and a Bachelor in Social Sciences, her main concerns were related to tradition vs. innovation and the sources/consequences of violence in societies.
Working as a performer, dancer, actress, singer, as well as choreographing and directing, María was also part of the teacher’s stuff in the only Theater University of Bolivia (Escuela Nacional de Teatro ENT-UCB).
In 2011 she received the award Danceweb (Viena, ImPuls Tanz) and moved to Europe. With one foot in South America and other in Europe, jumping to South Korea and all the way back, María belongs to a generation that believes that we do not need one nationality to define our identities.
After (and thanks to) Choreomundus, she discovered a whole a new perspective about culture, dance and post-colony. Her interests now rotate around migration as a personal (embodied) and social matter. At the present, she integrates part of the Choreomundus team in France (Université Clermont Auvergne U.C.A.), giving also danced conferences and participating in multidisciplinary and multicultural projects.
