Hediyeh Azma is a dancer-choreographer from Iran with twenty one years of experience in the field of Iranian classical dance. She is also trained in Modern, Contemporary and Classical Ballet and is a member of the International Dance Council (CID), Paris. She was awarded ‘Best Performer’ and ‘Best Director’ at the reputed Iranian Movement Festival called ‘Point’ for her choreographic work. Parallel to her artistic career, she runs the first dance school in Iran called ‘Deir’, founded in 2009. A fellowship in the subject of Entrepreneurship in Sweden further honed her career as founder of her school. Hediyeh also became the first Iranian to complete Choreomundus, an International Masters in Dance Knowledge, Practice and Heritage from 2016-2018. In her thesis, she looked at the relationship between audiences and dancers in the context of audience participatory performances. She is currently pursuing a fellowship program on curatorial activities hosted by Khoj Institute in New Delhi and Goethe Institute in Germany. Her project delves into the notion of ‘Body as Archive’ through the lens of Iranian Classical Dance.
