The time came. Same place, four years later. Where it all began. The first Choreomundus cohort met there, so did the next four generations. Our Choreomundus family has expanded and we only want it to grow from here. The first Choreomundus Alumni Conference took place August 26-28 at NTNU, Trondheim, and it was fabulous!!!
It is a big deal, if you think about it, that our 5 conveners have successfully managed to foster the new generation of dance scholars in such a unique arrangement. Over 80 people from all over the world have come together, in one way or another, to study their passion and to find new ones. The family environment created would not have been possible, I think, if it weren't for two main catalysts: first the family atmoshere that existed among the conveners long before the MA was created, and secondly the fact that we deal with dance. Dance is a medium for cross-cultural dialogues, it transforms in ways you cannot predict, it brings you close with people you never thought you'd give time to get to know.
I will never forget the performance we were asked to create one day into meeting each other in August 2012. We had two more days to create the performance. We barely knew each other, but we managed to perform a wonderful piece with elements of everyone's dance background. I will always remember the rehearsals in the student housing's parking lot in great sunny Norwegian weather.
Watching the 5th – yes fifth!- generation performing their performance shortly after starting off their own Choreomundus journey was so moving, it reminded me once again of what it is all about and how important our impact is.
During our stay, the Choreomundus Alumni Association became stronger than ever, we had numerous meetings with different people in conference rooms, dance halls, cafes, and restaurants, planning our next steps, projects, and of course...the next CAA conference!
Nothing of the above would have been possible if it were not for the kind funding by Trondheim Kommune , the Municipality of Trondheim. Thank you so much for helping us continue what we do best: to disseminate the Choremundus spirit and our dance knowledge to the world.
And thank you Egil Bakka, Gediminas Karoblis, Georgiana Gore, Laszlo Felfoldi, and Andrée Grau (not to mention all organisational and administrative staff) who made our stay, and academic dream come true.
Watch this space for the videoclip coming out soon!
Best wishes to all,
