Dancer, writer, researcher. Beatriz grew up in Guatemala City as a ballet and contemporary dancer and has developed her own choreographic work. As a writer, she has published her poetry work in local Magazines from Guatemala, her poetry book Hacia la Tempestad (Towards the tempest) [Magna Terra Editores, 2016] and was also a collaborator in the anthology Høre Hjemme: Poesikveld i Trondheim en antolologi[Forlaget Beijing Trondheim]. Beatriz holds a Bachelor in Arts focused on Anthropology and Literature, and studied literature production in the artistic field of Guatemala City. She has volunteered at different dance and performance festivals, and also lead the cultural committee for the Anthropology and Sociology Colloquium in Guatemala City in 2014.
Her MA dissertation is about contact improvisation. She inquired about the previous backgrounds of dancers from different movement practices in the open form of jams. She developed the theory based on phenomenology and systematized a methodology of movement analysis based on concepts from Labanotation. Currently, she is interested in exploring contact improvisation as a participatory artistic practice and exploring dance techniques from around the world.
